YOUTH INTEGRATED DEVELOPMENT ORGANISATIO

1.0 Background

Youth Integrated Development Organization (YIDO) is a professional and reputable non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Uganda. Since its establishment in 2005 and registration under NGO Bureau registration number 5914/7714, YIDO has dedicated to empowering vulnerable youth, children, and women to improve their livelihoods and overall well-being. Our organization focuses on five key areas namely; Agriculture, Health, Climate Change, Education, and WASH, with a particular emphasis on building the capacity of youth and women to access the necessary services required to improve their livelihoods sustainably. At YIDO, we take pride in our commitment to professionalism, excellence, and effectiveness in all our interventions aimed at empowering vulnerable communities.

YIDO’s thrust is in meeting the needs of our beneficiaries through a practical and tailored approach that considers the specific context of each situation. We conduct a comprehensive analysis of the situation and assess the needs of vulnerable children, marginalized youth, impoverished individuals, and women in order to determine the most pressing issues hindering their development. Fostering a participatory and community-based approach, we encourage beneficiaries to identify and prioritize their own challenges and suggest interventions that are realistic and effective in addressing their needs. Our ultimate goal is to help these individuals gain access to essential services and enhance their potential to break free from the cycle of ultra-poverty in a sustainable manner.

2.0 YIDO Model

The focus is on marginalized communities in Uganda, particularly those living in hard-to-reach areas prioritizing working with youth, women and children who face various challenges and limitations in accessing essential services. To identify these communities, we utilize existing data, linkages among stakeholders, and community status reports. Our approach involves leveraging the existing administrative structures to ensure maximum impact and efficiency in our interventions.  Partnering

with these communities, we strive to create sustainable change that will improve the quality of life and opportunities for these vulnerable groups.

1.   Community participation in identifying their bottlenecks and challenges, plan, share and provide immediate response to improve their livelihoods.

2.   Implementation  of  community  generated  environmentally  friendly  solutions  and  coping practices against bottlenecks and challenges through income generating projects.

3.   Building the community capacities for investments with viability and sustainability.

4.   Working with school youth to identify and prevent crimes in schools and neighbourhood communities.

5.   Evidence-based   programming   supported   by   data   collection,   synthesis   and   knowledge management.

YIDO implements its mandate through a range of interventions aimed at promoting sustainable development and improving the quality of life for vulnerable communities. Our initiatives include providing micro-finance and credit support services, fostering crime prevention in schools and communities through the formation of Schools Against Crime (SAC) clubs and community policing, and building community-police trust.

We also offer vocational and business skills training, capacity building in business development services, and related mentorship to promote economic empowerment. We are committed to preventing Gender-based violence and providing emergency support to vulnerable members of the community affected by crime. In addition, we engage in mobilization and referrals into HIV care, as well as HIV testing and counselling outreaches.

YIDO advocates for economic inclusion and provides one-off economic support, such as start-up support in agriculture, to promote livelihood improvement. Lastly, we promote documentation and conduct monitoring and evaluation to collect evidence for ensuring that our interventions remain relevant, effective, and impactful for the communities we serve.
