This unit provides tailored, high-impact training that is designed to address vocational and businesses skills’ gaps among vulnerable youth and women in Uganda. The unit also provides training on entrepreneurship, mindset transformation, governance and leadership. Under Skills Development, we have equipped 1,480 youth and women with demand-driven vocational and business skills affording them to start profitable businesses or obtain gainful employment. To date,180 youth in Kampala, Wakiso, Kayunga, Buikwe and Mpigi districts have been trained and supported to start profitable businesses such as fruit processing, piggery, saloon, soap making, welding, electronics, and poultry. Over 1120 youth trained in vocational skills are currently absorbed in gainful employment in different sectors, such as; agriculture, tourism, construction, craft, and automotive industries.
YIDO graduated of 128 graduates who were awarded certificates having undergone skills training for 6 months at Ave Maria Technical Institute in Kamwenge District. YIDO in partnership with ENABEL Uganda implemented skills training to 200 out of school students for both Refugees and Nationals to enable them compete in job market. A series of trainings and assessments was conducted by qualified tutors with Directorate of industrial Training (DIT). YIDO had continued to train youth in mindset transformation where by different groups of youth has started their own income generating projects and others forming SACCOs and VSLAs. This has increased and added value on their experience and their academic knowledge thus enabling them develop in their specialized areas of interest
